THE SKULLY SERIES IS DRAWN WITH PASSION AND LOVE FOR THE CULTURE
Skulls are part of the fabric of the Aztec and Mexican Culture. Our history and religion makes it hard to ignore how life, death and mortality influence the path of mankind.
Skulls have sparked my imagination in ways that transcend art mediums, culture, popular media and religion. I have been drawing skulls for as long as I can remember, on paper, school books, canvas and for the past 20 years, tattoos.
In the early days of Instagram I started the #SkullyTuesday hashtag, artists from all over the world came together to draw skulls. Most recently I was experimenting with an artstyle while drawing a skull, once I added a body to it, I saw the Skullys.
THE NFT COLLECTION
The Skully Series is an introduction to NFTs for the generations that grew up with Saturday Morning Cartoons, Cheesy Action Movies, Radio song MixTapes and Cultural Identity.
My goals with the Skullys is to keep the NFT focus on Art by Artists, Celebrate the Talent of the Artists and the Icons in the collection and create an inclusive community for the empowerment of collectors and artists.
FOCUS ON ART
We recognize that most NFTs today are large collections with thousands of derivatives and involve giveaways, clubhouse all nighters and large teams of developers, designers, artists and community managers.
We are keeping it simple. The "We" is me. DTM. DeltaTangoMike. One Artist with inspiration and imagination who roped in other artists inspired by the cartoons and comics they grew up with. That is it.
Add in an advisor or two with feedback from members of the NFT community, on how to best organize the Skully Series to see it succeed.
We are keeping it simple.
MEET THE SKULLYS
I am just starting to comprehend how deep my roots go in the way of the Skulls and what it means to humanity. I want to share my experience with you as I continue to explore the Skull Characters in the many mediums available to us.
Since the 70s (the decade DTM was born in - 1972 specifically ), there have been countless icons that have littered the landscape of Movies, TV, Comics, Animation, Entertainment, Society and let's not even start with sub-cultures because then we don't have enough numbers to imagine how many Icons we come across. whew!
Skullys are those icons we come across in our daily lives. If you are a comic head, icons. If you are a movie buff, icons. If you have cultural experience, icons.
We are here for the memories, share the moment we first came across these awesome characters. For this Skully Series, we have identified a collection of 144 Skullys and 6 Categories:
5. Ethnic Culture
6. Popular Culture
Yes, you are right. There are many many other areas we can explore and find a ton of Icons. But then I would be drawing non stop for the rest of my life!
I have been drawing Skulls as far as I can remember. In the '80s I ate a lot of candy skulls every fall, as they are the favorite candy of children during The Day of The Dead celebrations in Mexico. Skulls, skulls everywhere!
I am inspired by everything in our world. I like drawing skulls, designing skulls, creating skulls in every art style possible. I even have a few skull tattoos.
The Skully art style is a mix of comics, street art and hip hop. I like clarity in my art, I like to see details and be able to tell what we are looking at.
Each Skully has an identity, they stand for someone, a story and a memory.
We are drawing each character with Adobe Fresco and the iPad Pro. Fresco makes it easy to draw by hand on the screen with the Apple Pencil. I like the organic look of drawing by hand combined with the power of digital art.
DTM has organized the Skull and Body in an Adobe Fresco template and is shared through Adobe Creative Cloud Docs taking advantage of the Creative Cloud apps and document sync is makes for easy collaboration.
Each Skully is hand drawn each step of the way in vector. Vector Art let's us use the art for any medium, from web to print, from merch to collectables.
Now that you know how we got here. The question is: Where are we going?
As the Skullys become reality, it is time to consider physical manifestations for the art. Some ideas include are posters, tees and merch. Merch that the community can have input on, create, earn and share with the world.
The steps we take with the art is up for discussion between the collectors and artists. We are in this project together.
The conversation will happen in The Sketching and Drawing Discord that began in 2021 and it is a place for conversation and learning about art. It has slowly grown to include artists of all levels who like to share their passion for art and art aficionados who get a behind the scenes to the process of art.
You are invited to that conversation right now.

20% of profits will be donated to two organization serving the arts and STEAM community; Art Is King and ButtercupSTEAM. The funds will provide financial support for educational services and classes, device upgrades, art supplies and equipment.
Since 2012, Art is King has provided art biz education to artists building their independent art career, regardless of art medium, traditional to digital. From workshops to art biz coaching to asisting artists with tech to help them organize their art biz, Art Is King is dedicated to bridging the gap between creativity and the business of art.
ButtercupSTEAM started in 2018 and their primary mission to reduce the gender and racial gap in technology professions by inspiring girls and girls of color with an adventurous and memorable introduction to coding and engineering. ButtercupSTEAM Camp is a unique week-long adventure for girls to learn, build and code in a fun and supportive environment. Students work hands-on creating a robot and learning to code it with several different programs.
