I started drawing skulls as a young child, as a Chicano growing up in East LA, Skulls are part of our culture.
The Day of the Dead is a real tradition. I remember visiting the cemetery and bringing gifts, flowers, food, drink and spending all day with other families visiting their departed ancestors. Skulls spark my imagination in ways that transcend art mediums, culture, popular media and religion. I am just starting to comprehend how deep my roots go in the way of the Skulls and what it means to humanity. I want to share my experience with you as I continue to explore the Skullys in art, in this series I call: Skullys. -DTM
